Miss America Emma Broyles’ Signature Styles: Preppy Blazers, Clear Glasses, and ALL the Glamor
Emma Broyles, representing Alaska, was crowned Miss America on the pageant’s 100th anniversary in December 2021, the first Korean-American to ever win the title. Her talent, commitment to social causes, intelligence, charisma, and style were the key factors in her victory. Emma has several signature aesthetics, which are now widely emulated, such as tailored denim jackets, turtlenecks paired with clear glasses, and chic, preppy outfits.
Emma hails from Anchorage, graduating from the region’s Service High School in 2019. While there, she was the co-president of the Partners Club, which the Special Olympics sponsors. This had great personal meaning for Emma: her older brother has Down Syndrome.
Prior to winning Miss Alaska, and subsequently Miss America, in 2021, Emma won the title of Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen in January 2017. She was named Miss Alaska’s Outstanding Teen in the same year. In 2019 Emma was awarded the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Alaska at the age of seventeen.

A New Miss America is Crowned
Before the Miss America pageant aired, Emma took to social media to open up about some of the things that make her daily life difficult. She lives with both ADHD and dermatillomania. The latter is a condition causing the sufferer to have a strong urge to pick at their skin constantly.
During the contest, Emma displayed her penchant for singing, treating the audience and judges to a rendition of ‘Let Me Be Your Star’ from the hit TV show Smash in the talent section of the show. She chose the Special Olympics as her social impact initiative.
Emma was one of fifty-one other women competing for the title of Miss America from states all over the USA. As the winner of the contest, she’ll travel around 20,000 miles a month, representing the Miss America Organization and serving as a role model and advocate for young women from all walks of life. As well as getting to have a whole host of amazing adventures!
Through regional competition and the Miss America Pageant, Emma earned $105,000 in scholarship assistance, helping her take the next steps needed toward her dream career.
How to Get Emma’s Style
Emma has a unique aesthetic all her own – but you can easily adapt it to your personality and wardrobe! Here are Emma’s key looks and how to copy them.
Polished and Preppy
Think houndstooth fitted blazers, tan or plaid mini skirts, smart white high-heeled boots, and a stylish pair of Cateye glasses, and you’ve got one of Emma’s stand-out styles in mind. Catseye glasses are easy to wear and will suit most face shapes – choose a pair with a frame color that suits your skin tone for the best effect possible.
Make this work for you by incorporating a couple of preppy pieces into your everyday wardrobe. For example, team your favorite pair of jeans with a white Oxford shirt and striped necktie. Add a pair of cat’s eye sunglasses or thick-rimmed rectangular-shaped frames, and you’ve added the perfect amount of preppiness to your outfit!
Nine to Five Fabulousness
Does your work wardrobe need jazzing up? Channel Emma’s nine-to-fabulous look and pair fitted white capris with a simple white top and a tailored white blazer. The piece de resistance? A bright splash of color on your feet! Go with bright blue, red, green, or orange for maximum effect.
Hitting the Town
Want some inspiration for an ensemble for a big night out? Take a leaf out of Emma’s book and match an embellished off-the-shoulder top with a flouncy black skirt and statement heels for a fun look that’ll easily take you from restaurant to bar to the club! Don’t forget the vital accessories to make this outfit pop: a pair of this season’s must-have clear glasses and a pair of long, sparkly drop earrings to up the glam stakes.
Just because you’re relaxing doesn’t mean you don’t want to look stylish, right? If you want to add some of Emma’s vibe to your go-to chill-out outfits, it’s easy to do! The key is layering a chic, grey, or white turtleneck top with a denim jacket and some silver jewelry. Wear with cargo pants or jogging bottoms, and add a pair of aviator shades for an ultra-laid-back yet supremely stylish ensemble.
