Angela Michelle Harmon was born in Highland Park, Texas, on August 10, 1972. Her father was an executive in Dallas who worked with hospital information networks and had German and Irish ancestry. Her mother is of Greek descent.

Angie Harmon began her career as a child model and won a Seventeen modeling contest in 1987. She was a member of the Highland Belles and attended Highland Park High School until 1990. After winning a Spectrum Model Search contest, she pursued a successful modeling career in the early 1990s.
